The Game Awards Streams Live on Prime Video for the First Time Ever

The gaming world is about to get a major viewing upgrade. The Game Awards, the industry’s most celebrated annual awards ceremony, will stream live on Amazon Prime Video for the first time in its 11-year history when it airs on December 11, 2025.

A Historic Milestone for Gaming’s Biggest Night

Since its inception in 2014, The Game Awards has primarily relied on free streaming platforms to reach its global audience. This year marks a turning point as creator and host Geoff Keighley announced the groundbreaking partnership with Amazon, making Prime Video an official broadcast destination alongside the show’s traditional platforms.

“We’re thrilled to bring our global celebration of video games to even more audiences with the addition of Prime Video,” Keighley said in a statement. “With the upcoming launch of Fallout Season 2 and an exciting slate of game adaptations, Prime Video is a natural home for our show. We’re honored to have Amazon stand alongside so many other entertainment technology companies as partners to our show.”

The decision to partner with Prime Video represents a significant moment in gaming awards history. Unlike music or film awards ceremonies, game awards shows have traditionally remained on free platforms, making this Amazon partnership particularly noteworthy within the industry.

How to Watch The Game Awards 2025

The ceremony will broadcast live from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Thursday, December 11 from 5 to 8 PM PT (8 to 11 PM ET). Prime Video members can watch the entire show at no additional cost with their existing Prime membership.

However, Prime Video is just one of many viewing options available to audiences. The Game Awards continues to prioritize accessibility by streaming simultaneously across multiple free platforms. Viewers can also tune in to YouTubeTwitchSteam, and through 30 global streaming partners worldwide. This multi-platform approach ensures that millions of gamers across the globe can watch regardless of their preferred service.

For those choosing Twitch specifically, this year introduces an enhanced viewing experience. The Game Awards will stream in 2K resolution (1440p) for the first time, and viewers who watch for 30 minutes or longer will earn Twitch Drops—exclusive in-game content and a limited-edition TGA chat badge. The event was co-streamed by more than 11,000 creators last year, demonstrating the massive reach the show commands within the gaming community.

What to Expect from the 2025 Ceremony

Beyond awards honoring the year’s best games and creators, the ceremony will feature world premiere trailers, major new game announcements, and musical performances. This year brings additional star power, with presenters from Amazon MGM Studios‘ Fallout series making an appearance to showcase content from the upcoming second season, which arrives on Prime Video on December 17, 2025.

The 2024 edition of The Game Awards achieved remarkable viewership figures, reaching 154 million livestreams across all platforms combined. With the addition of Prime Video and upgraded Twitch quality, the 2025 show is positioned to potentially exceed those numbers.

Amazon’s Expanded Role: Retail and Exclusive Deals

Amazon’s involvement extends beyond streaming. The company has become the official retail partner for The Game Awards, launching a dedicated shop at amazon.com/thegameawards featuring special deals and offers on games, hardware, and accessories.

During the live broadcast, Prime members will have access to exclusive, limited-time deals on nominated games, new releases, and hardware revealed in real time through the dedicated Game Awards shop. These special offers will be available only through amazon.com/thegameawards and will run for up to 24 hours while supplies last. All promotional deals will remain available through December 31, 2025.

The Game Awards’ Growing Impact

Founded by Geoff Keighley in 2014, The Game Awards emerged from his vision to create an equivalent to the Academy Awards for video games. After working as a journalist and producer in the gaming industry for over three decades, Keighley established the awards show as an independent alternative to existing gaming media events. He personally invested more than $1 million of his own cash to launch the inaugural ceremony.

Beyond The Game Awards, Keighley also produces Opening Night Live at Gamescom and Summer Game Fest. His commitment to celebrating game creators over entertainment spectacle has become the defining philosophy of the awards show.

Mark Your Calendar

Whether you choose to stream on Prime VideoTwitchYouTube, or one of the 30 other global platforms, December 11 promises an unforgettable celebration of gaming’s best talent and most anticipated titles. The expanded viewing options ensure that no gamer will miss out on 2025’s biggest night in the industry.
